Proprietors Reserve Syrah
Three separate batches of ripe Syrah grapes were hand harvested for this wine. 80% of the grapes were the Mass selected clone of Syrah, 20% the Chave clone. They were crushed, destemmed and fermented at 26-28C using selected yeast strains. The wine had 14 days post ferment maceration before being pressed and put into barriques after malolactic fermentation. The wines were matured in these French barriques (40% new) for 12 months and blended prior to bottling.
The 2013 vintage started with a cool, frosty spring but quickly progressed into a classic Hawke’s Bay summer. Hot and dry conditions from December through to end of harvest in April ensured ripe, flavoursome fruit in excellent condition. One of the best!
