Proprietors Reserve Chardonnay
100% barrel fermented in French oak barriques (1/3 new and 2/3 one and two years old). 50% was fermented cool at 15 to 18C, 25% had a wild ferment and 25% had a “hot ferment” at 23C. The wine underwent a complete malo‐lactic fermentation. The wine was left in the barrels on gross lees for 11 months and stirred monthly before racking and bottling.
The 2013 vintage started with a cool, frosty spring but quickly progressed into a classic Hawke’s Bay summer. Hot and dry conditions from December through to end of harvest in April ensured ripe, flavoursome fruit in excellent condition. One of the best! Two vineyards in the Bridge Pa Triangle, identified for their consistently high quality over a number of years, were selected to produce this Chardonnay. The vines were 2‐cane pruned, VSP trained and lightly leaf plucked during the summer. Grapes used were 100% clone 15 Chardonnay, yielding 2.8 kg of grapes per vine.
Perfectly matched with richly flavoured poultry and seafood dishes. May be enjoyed now or cellared up to 7 years from vintage date.
